I was so proud and filled with excitement when I got accepted to DSU back in 1998. I attended from 98-2000 and was heartbroken that I had decided to leave, due to issues with my student loans not being dispersed in a timely manner, or at all. My mother had to drive down from Newark, Delaware and give one of the ladies in the financial aid office a lesson in math, and before you know it, I got my last few classes paid for and a refund before transferring to the University of Delaware, which was an absolutely better decision.

What also broke my heart was seeing all these beautiful black and brown people, with so much promise, throw away their futures to keep up some image, and mentality from the streets. Fights and shootings were normal occurrences and I just had to go.

I hope it’s gotten much better, and the leadership there understands that they have a piece of the future if Black America in their hands, that they have an opportunity to help mold and forge into what can potentially help advance and have an immense and powerful impact for future generations of all (and especially black and brown) people in this country and future generations to come.

The WORST school I have EVER come across as a student. Their communication is horrible, the right hand has no idea what the left is doing, they always promise things will improve and things will happen but they NEVER do! Example 1, ECHS or ECS, which is DSUs attempt to draft high school kids into DSU, was suppose to be held at a temporary placement at an old hotel for its first year, they have been open now for about ten years. I was told they were suppose to start an FNP program this fall and that they only need a director but its "gonna start" 2024 fall semester. Still no such program that is active. Spoke with numerous faculty there during the spring/summer, to prepare for the fall 2024 semester, at least 10, still til this day I have no idea who my counselor was suppose to be, they never told me. I personally know a student at ECS class of 24', which is ran by DSU, who got a FULL RIDE AND TURNED IT DOWN!!!! Why? You guessed it, a clustered mess with horrible communication. How awful are you when students would rather pass up a full ride then deal with the chaos! Look at their pass rate of students and their retention rates. HORRIBLE once again!!! I myself was accepted to DSU, but I was so frustrated I rescinded my application because to start on a good step was just impossible with lack of good support from faculty. Look at the stats if you don't believe me. The are federally mandated to report. I ended up going to another University in Wilmington who is nationally accredited and my lowest grade in all of my classes is a 97%. I bust my butt and the communication is great, staff is responsive and NOT using student helplines ran by students who really don't know about classes or what it involves for each major and apparently staff. You call the school I chose and you actually talk to faculty and not just have to put in case numbers and emails and hope to get it resolved eventually. O and when I originally went into a "mandatory" meeting in Dover, DE. I was told o it,s not mandatory to be here. So missed work for no reason. O and was told by admissions, this class "should" work!!!! Talked to ANOTHER faculty member who said no that won't work who told you that, O ADMISSIONS did!!!!! Unreal, I took a whole summer semester to get ready for DSU, and I took a losses of time and a monetary value, but then I'll deal with that than unorganized chaos. Go somewhere else!!!!! You have been warned.

They graduate more criminals than students. If you’re looking for constant shootouts, misguides and rachete culture. This is your school!

As an Alum of 17 years ago, I'm proud to still be a HORNET!!! Come back to campus year after year for homecoming and other events. I've been bringing my son since he was two and he's almost a pre-teen now; I'm raising a future HORNET!!

Great school but no school is perfect 100% of the time I'm a proud graduate of DSU and of a HBCU. My daughter attended and graduated also. Black students and athletes please support and attend HBCUs. Be proud of our legacy. The campus has been well kept and updated since I attended. It looks great.

Very unorganized, lacks communication between other staff members and administration. If you want to get ahold of anyone in this school you better not count on emailing or phone calls because they will not answer you. I had my major changed "accidentally" and they "didn't know how that happened". On top of all this, it is very unprofessional. I've walked by students smoking weed in the circle(the center of the campus), there are numerous gun violence crimes every year. From shootings to armed robberies it makes me wonder why we aren't allowed to AT LEAST carry mace as our self defense because clearly the campus police are a joke. I have contemplated going to Delware Tech or Wilmington college.
